UCC Saskatchewan Reaches New One-Year Agreement with Government of Saskatchewan to Fund Settlement and Translation Services for Displaced Ukrainians

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress of Saskatchewan welcomes a new one-year funding agreement allowing for the restoration of key settlement and translation services for displaced Ukrainian newcomers to Saskatchewan.

The agreement came into effect on 01 June following constructive negotiations with the Ministry of Immigration and Career Training.

Elena Krueger, President of UCC Saskatchewan, “We are grateful for the outpouring of support as well as the Government’s decision to reinstate funding for much needed and used front-line settlement and translation services.”

UCC Saskatchewan is the natural point of contact for displaced Ukrainians. Under the terms of this agreement UCC Saskatchewan will coordinate pathways to settlement, either pre-arrival or landed, and assist Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) Visa holders with identifying pathways and challenges to obtaining longer-term settlement. UCC Saskatchewan will also provide Specialized Translation & Interpretation Services using its pool of qualified Saskatchewan-based translators and interpreters from rural and urban communities to coordinate service requests for quality document translation and oral interpretive services, thereby assisting newcomers to settle and integrate into communities across Saskatchewan.

Together with the Employment Services team, Settlement staff will assess and recommend pathways to access identified settlement and employment needs by helping prepare displaced Ukrainians for potential long-term settlement in Saskatchewan. This may include, but is not limited to, referrals to language assessments and courses, housing, mental health supports, credential recognition, resumes and job matching.

These programs align with the Saskatchewan Labour Market Strategy providing settlement services that support the retention and integration of newcomers to Saskatchewan. The programs prepare Saskatchewan people for jobs and provide connections to the Credential Recognition Services Branch for pathways to credential recognition.

For Translation & Interpretation Services, please contact Oleksandr Karasov at 1-888-652-5850 ext. 105 or email language.services@ucc.sk.ca.

For Newcomer Settlement & Integration Services, please call us at 1-888-652-5850 and dial 102 for Oleg Garbuz, 104 for Olena Atamanchuk, or email settlement@ucc.sk.ca.
