Carolyn Stadnyk has been hired as the new UCC-SPC Ukrainian Dance Outreach Coordinator.

Originally from Edmonton, Carolyn is a student of Pharmacology at the University of Saskatchewan. She and her husband have lived in Saskatoon for three years. Prior to moving here, they lived in Regina for five years.

Carolyn is a former Ukrainian dancer, Dance Instructor (Sopilka Ukrainian Dance School) as well as President of the Verkhovyna School of Ukrainian Dance in Edmonton. She brings extensive experience in fundraising, organizational planning and development as well as a deep understanding of volunteer-run dance schools. Carolyn is a strong communicator and UCC-SPC is pleased to welcome her aboard.

Thank you Sonya!

Sonya Horner completed her term as Ukrainian Dance Outreach Coordinator with UCC-SPC on 31 December 2011. Her work in laying the groundwork for UCC-SPC’s role in supporting this province’s Ukrainian dance community is very important.

During her term, Sonya conducted a number of community consultations and organized a dance conference involving volunteers and instructors from across the province. Her strategic plan framework was presented at the 2011 conference and contains short, medium and long-term goals. Sonya also collaborated with the UCC-SPC summer student Matt Zelensky to organize a successful weekend Ukrainian dance workshop in Bruno.

Sonya has decided that the increasing role and expectations of the position could not be balanced with her other teaching and permanent work. We are sorry to see her go and wish her continued success in our dance community!
