What is the Communicator?

The Communicator Program follows a Train-the-Trainer model and is built around a blended learning approach, combining self-directed learning in Moodle with virutal synchronous sessions for each course. The program offers sector-specific training. Participants progress through mandatory and elective courses designed to support real-world community interpretation and translation practice.

Current module structure includes: Core courses (3 Mandatory) Fundamentals of community interpretation and translation, including ethics, professional standards, and best practices. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for Creating Safe Spaces Indigenous Peoples of Canada Electives: Justice, Legal & Policing Education Employment Financial Literacy Healthcare Trauma-Informed Practice Train-the-Trainer (by invitation)

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

Community interpreters or translators working or volunteering with a Service Provider Organization (SPO) across the Prairies Bilingual or multilingual, with advanced proficiency in English and at least one additional language 18 years of age or older and legally entitled to work in Canada Available to participate in online, blended learning, including self-paced modules and facilitated sessions delivered through the Communicator LMS Living in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba
