Newcomers Visit the UCC-SB Office

August 11, 2008 -- The KRACHUN family -- Andriy, Oksana and Dmytro -- visited the Immigration Program to thank staff for settlement support. The Program provided a bed, table and chairs to the arrived family through its household donations project. Oksana arrived a week ago from Ukraine and has already registered for ESL Classes. Dmytro heads into his first Canadian year at the Ukrainian Bilingual School in Saskatoon. Welcome to Canada!

On May 28 and June 16, 2008 -- Three newly arrived Ukrainian welders who will be working for a Saskatoon company were met by Ukrainian community representatives at the airport. February 2, 2008 -- One worker (CNC operator) plus three spouses with their three children from Ukraine arrived to join their husbands in Saskatoon. They were met by the UCC-SB's Saskatoon Ukrainian Immigrant Settlement Program volunteer Audrey Langhorst, Canadian and Ukrainian co-workers and husbands. Audrey provided them "Welcome to Saskatoon information packages" prepared by the Program. November 21, 2007 -- Four Ukrainian workers arrived to Saskatoon to work for Hitachi Canadian Industries and Industrial Machines. Companies' HR Directors Mr. Flowers and Ms. Foster, UCC-SB Immigrant Settlement Program Coordinator Serhiy Kostyuk, Immigrant Support Services Director Walter Garchinski, and previously-arrived Ukrainian co-workers met and welcomed them to Saskatoon.

October 19-21 -- Slawko Kindrachuk, Serhiy Kostyuk, Albert Kachkowski, and Larry Balion from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Saskatoon Branch took part at the XXII Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians "Connecting our Community" of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress in Winnipeg, MB.
   Serhiy Kostyuk presented on "The Ukrainian Immigrant Settlement Program of the UCC-SB: Problems and Accomplishments" on October 20, 2007.
   The UCC-SB approach for assisting Ukrainian immigrants with their settlement and integration issues in Canada was recognized as the model for all the UCC branches dealing with recent Ukrainian immigrants.

September 2, 2007 -- UCC-SB Immigrant Settlement Program volunteers visited Ukrainian workers in North Battleford and took part in a social event welcoming their arrived spouses and recognizing the support of Ukrainian Canadians. Ukrainian hand-made embroidered shirts were presented to those Canadian-born Ukrainians who kindly supported Ukrainian workers as they settled in Saskatchewan.

September 2, 2007 -- UCC-SB volunteers along with representatives of a local company met a group of Ukrainian workers in Saskatoon. The group, supervised by Immigration Program Manager Oksana Sayenko from the Kyiv Youth Labour Centre, arrived to work for one of the companies in Saskatoon. Welcome!

August 26, 2007
-- UCC-SB Immigration Program representative visited five workers, who arrived from Ukraine two weeks ago. He welcomed them with bread and salt at their rented apartments and answered their various questions about day-to-day life in Saskatoon. Ukrainian workers Anatoliy, Serhiy, Olexandr, Serhiy and Kostyantyn had arrived to work for one of the companies in Saskatoon, and were met at the airport by UCC-SB volunteers on August 13, 2007. UCC-SB provided them with beds, couches, tables and chairs, kitchen appliances, vacuum cleaner, TV sets and other household items through their Household Furnishing Program (donations from Saskatoon's community). More workers from Ukraine are expected to arrive in September.
