UCC-SPC Hires Ukrainian Dance Consultant

September 2, 2010 -- The Saskatchewan Provincial Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress is pleased to announce the hiring of Ms Sonya Horner as UCC-SPC Ukrainian Dance Consultant on a contractual basis to the end of March 2011.

Sonya’s work responsibilities will include:

  1. consulting with Saskatchewan’s Ukrainian dance community in order to develop a strategic action plan that outlines program/service priorities and models for a long-term, effective and sustainable dance support program;
  2. providing networking opportunities to those involved in Saskatchewan’s Ukrainian dance community (volunteers, instructors, dancers, supporters);
  3. identifying professional development opportunities for Ukrainian dancers, instructors and volunteers; and
  4. identifying and developing dance resources for the UCC-SPC web site.

Sonya is a talented former Ukrainian dancer with the Pavlychenko Folklorique Ensemble (Saskatoon) with whom she toured Saskatchewan, parts of Alberta, Manitoba, eastern Canada as well as the USA, Brazil, and Ukraine. She has also performed in many festivals including Dare to Dance, Vegreville Pysanka and Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin.

As an instructor, Sonya has worked with the Cudworth Dance School (ballet, tap and jazz); Cudworth School of Ukrainian Dance; Saskatoon School of Dance, Rushnychok Ukrainian Folk Dance Association (Saskatoon); Sonia’s School of Dance (Saskatoon); Svoboda Ukrainian Dance Club (North Battleford), and Prince Albert Barveenok Dancers.

In addition to her Ukrainian dancing talents, Sonya has also completed her Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Intermediate.
