Janelle (Hassett) Eberle couldn't believe the news when she found out she'd won the grand prize $8,922.50 in the province-wide 50-50 lottery held by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Saskatchewan Provincial Council.

"I just cried, I was so happy," said the single mother, adding her family was brought to tears by the good news as well.

Local branch president Paul Kardynal (left) and director Orest Woytiuk (right) were more than happy to present her with the cheque October 5.

Kardynal explained the proceeds from the lottery go towards the UCC-SPC's community development fund, which supports Ukrainian educational, cultural and heritage programs in the province.
