Employment Opportunity: Translation & Interpretation Services Coordinator

October 5, 2010 -- The Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Saskatchewan Provincial Council Inc. invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Translation & Interpretation Services Coordinator. The Coordinator will work within UCC-SPC’s Immigrant Settlement and Integration Support program. This is a part-time term position with hours to be determined. UCC-SPC Announcement

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• coordination of UCC-SPC’s translation and interpretation services for Ukrainian skilled-labourer newcomers, their families, employers and other stakeholders;
• working with a province-wide pool of qualified translators and interpreters;
• acting as a linguistic resource for immigrant workers and family members in accessing necessary settlement services;
• identifying relevant professional development resources, including sector-specific materials;
• following established guidelines and standards of practice for translation and interpretation;
• exploring partnerships for professional development training of UCC-SPC translators and interpreters.
• preparing necessary progress reports including both statistical and narrative information;
• facilitating interpretation to newcomers during Saskatchewan Drivers Licence written exams;
• exploring partnerships with other agencies/stakeholders

SKILLS, TRAINING, OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• good organizational, time management, interpersonal, reporting and communication skills
• good computer skills, ability to work in MS office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• strong Ukrainian and English language skills (speaking, reading comprehension, writing)
• shows initiative, is responsible, maintains high level of accuracy
• works well as part of a team and independently when required
• able to work weekends and evenings when necessary
• driver’s licence, car, able to travel

Expected start date: 25 October 2010.            Salary: based on experience
