Saskatchewan Ukrainian Historical Society presents:
"In Baba's Trunk"
by Karen Pidskalny, SUHS Project Coordinator
You will find a lifetime of treasures and memories in Baba's old trunk
(the skrynia). That was the place to safely keep photographs, legal
documents, land titles, financial journals, letters, postcards, keepsakes,
clothing and any other important article that held value. Inside the
trunk, there are stories waiting to be shared and history to be discovered.
Going through Baba's Trunk recently, we found some amazing treasures.
There is so much excitement about our discovery that we are inviting
you to come and share it with us on Saturday, May 8, 2004. The trunk
and I will be at the Dormition of the Blessed Mother of God parish
(120-105th Street, Saskatoon).
During your visit with me, we will reminisce over three pieces
of treasure.
"Our Family Tree":
Where do you search and how to compile your family history. We will
introduce some fun and interesting ways to record and preserve your
family tree as well as ideas about Family Reunions.
"Organizations, Committees and Memberships, Oh My!":
The history of many Ukrainian organizations has its roots here in
Saskatchewan. Why have some survived and some gone by the wayside?
How do you decide where to dedicate your time in the Ukrainian community?
"It started With a Horse and A Plow":
The love of the land flows through the blood of a Ukrainian. It
was the reason they first came to Canada and why many Ukrainians
still farm today. We will discuss the joys and turmoil of agriculture
in a new country.
We look forward to spending the day with you and sharing in our
Ukrainian history in both in Saskatchewan and Canada.
