Press Release
There is still time to register for the Sixth Adult Ukrainian Language Immersion Camp (AULIC 2006)

August 4, 2006 – This year the registrations for the Adult Ukrainian Immersion Camp (AULIC) have come in faster than expected but there is still some room and time to register. This year is the sixth anniversary of the AULIC project and the instructors are as impressive as ever. As in previous years, three levels of instruction will be offered, these along with the instructors are summarized below

Beginners Level (4-day weekend) -- Anita Drebot:
Originally from Sudbury, Anita has taught Ukrainian in Regina and elsewhere for 40 years. She has a BA in Slavic Studies from the University of Regina (UoR) and a number of Master’s classes from the University of Saskatchewan (UoS). She taught Ukrainian in the Public School system, at the UoR for more than 10 years and briefly at the UoS. She also hosted Ukrainian radio and TV programs. This will be her fifth year with the AULIC program.

Intermediate Level (4-day weekend and extended program) -- Olena Zintchouk:
Olena Zintchouk was an elementary school teacher in Ukraine before immigrating to Canada. Although she taught a broad range of subjects, her chief area of expertise is art. Olena is an accomplished artist and in addition to teaching one of our Intermediate language classes, she will also be demonstrating painting techniques (tempra) in the evening during the extended session (Aug 13 to 18).

Intermediate Level (4-day weekend and extended program) -- Victoria Muzychuk:
Victoria graduated from the Lviv National University with a degree in Slavic Languages and Literature combined with the Education/Teaching Certificate, in 1988. In 1993 she received a degree in English Language Education from the Volyn National University. She has been re-certified in Canada, with an equivalency of a BA in Linguistics. She has instructed adult and children groups in Ukraine and Canada. Victoria has also worked as an interpreter and translator.

Advanced Level (4-day weekend) -- Kateryna Stratiychuk:
Originally from the Khmel’nyts’kyi Oblast in Ukraine, Kateryna completed her university education at the Fedkovych University in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. She has 32 years experience as a teacher in Ukraine, 12 of which were as Vice-Principal at a High School in Kyiv. Her specialty was the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian literature. During her professional career she attained the highest level of teacher qualification available in Ukraine.

The AULIC will be held from Aug. 10-13 (4-day weekend) and Aug. 13-18 (extended program), at Trident Camp, Crystal Lake, Saskatchewan. However the program will not be all class work. Evenings will include singing, learning the finer points of certain Ukrainian traditions plus recreational activities. For the entire nine days, Ukrainian will be the ‘official’ language with English used when necessary.

The registration fee for 2006 will be a modest $200 (4-day weekend) and $325 (9-day session) per student. Those interested in learning more about the program should visit the AULIC website at www.aulic.ca or contact any member of the AULIC organizing committee, Ed Lysyk, Wayne Hydeman, Ken Mazur, Rhonda Slugoski or Tony Harras (306-586-6805/ 585-7945(f) /harras @ sasktel.net/ or at 455 Habkirk Dr., Regina, SK. S4S 6B2). The AULIC is a joint project of the Ukrainian Orthodox Men’s Association of Regina and the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business Association of Regina.

The response to date has been a great. Expectations are that we may hit last year’s record high of 35 students. So plan to register soon and avoid being disappointed.
