It will be accepted by Ukraine's Ambassador to Canada Dr. Ihor Ostash, Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Mr. Oleh Shamshur, national president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Mr. Paul Grod, and president of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America Mr. Mykhajlo Sawkiw. The ceremony will take place immediately prior to the opening of the exhibit Holodomor: Genocide by Famine at Toronto's City Hall.

Canadian events titled Keep the Flame Alive are designed to remember the victims of the Holodomor while ensuring that the story is transferred from generation to generation, from Holodomor survivors to the youth. Commemorative programs will emphasize the importance of sharing facts about the Holodomor with Canadians and continuing the awareness campaign going forward thus helping to ensure that similar atrocities are never repeated.

Events will also serve as the launch of a national campaign urging the Canadian government to recognize the Holodomor as an act of genocide and support Ukraine's motion for such recognition by the United Nations.

The Flame will be escorted throughout Canada by Holodomor survivor Mr. Stefan Horlatsch.
